PFT 2006 MOCK DRAFT VERSION 2

April 4, 2006

We reshuffle the deck, for the hell of it.  To see the prior version of the mock, click here.

ROUND ONE

1.  Houston Texans:  Reggie Bush, RB, USC (Joel Segal).

Reggie solidifies his standing.  Barring a trade down, he'll be playing in Houston come September.

2.  New York Jets (projected trade with Saints):  Matt Leinart, QB, USC (Leigh Steinberg, Charles Price).

The Saints want to get out of the two hole, and the Jets won't be able to resist the lure of a franchise quarterback.

3.  Tennessee Titans:  Vince Young, QB, Texas (Major Adams).

We think that the Titans will take Young even if Leinart is still on the board.

4.  New Orleans Saints (projected trade with Jets):  Mario Williams, DE, N.C. State (Ben Dogra).

Payton gets his Peppers.

5.  Green Bay Packers:  A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio State (Mike McCartney).

If they could clone this guy six or seven times, the Packers might win six or seven games.

6.  San Francisco 49ers:  D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia (Donald Yee, Stephen Dubin).

In a draft full of freaks at the top of round one, someone has to slide out of the top five.

7.  Oakland Raiders:  Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland (Ethan Lock, Zeke Sandhu).

Better than Kellen Winslow, who went in the six hole two years ago to Cleveland.  As an added plus, Davis doesn't own a motorcycle.

8.  Buffalo Bills:  Jonathan Joseph, CB, South Carolina (Jason Chayut).

With or without Nate Clements, the Bills need an upgrade.

9.  Detroit Lions:  Michael Huff, S, Texas (Ben Dogra).

If Huff is there, Lions take him.  Without a doubt.

10.  Arizona Cardinals:  Winston Justice, OT, USC (Leigh Steinberg, Bruce Tollner, Ryan Tollner).

Justice's stock is rising, and the Cards have been using live stock on the O-line.

11.  St. Louis Rams:  Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon (Mike McCartney).

Adding La'Roi Glover isn't nearly enough to improve an interior defensive line that has been a dee-saster in St. Louis.

12.  Cleveland Browns:  Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida State (Gary Wichard).

The Browns add some beef to the defensive side of the ball.

13.   Baltimore Ravens:  Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt (Bus Cook).

If Cutler is a bust, Ozzie Newsome could ultimately take the fall for it.

14.  Philadelphia Eagles:  Chad Jackson, WR, Florida (David Canter).

Another guy who is gradually climbing.

15.  Denver Broncos (from Atlanta):  LenDale White, RB, USC (Eugene Parker).

The Broncos arguably could wait until No. 22 and still get him, but with the Vikings lurking at 17, it's not worth the risk.

16.  Miami Dolphins:  Darnell Bing, S, USC (Lamont Smith, Peter Schaffer).

Bing's pro day and the Fins' need combine to propel him well into round one.

17.  Minnesota Vikings:  DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis (Jimmy Sexton).

The Vikings continue to look for a guy who can carry the ball on a consistent basis.

18.  Dallas Cowboys:  Jason Allen, CB/S, Tennessee (Tony Fleming, Mitch Frankel).

Allen can play nickel back instantly, or free safety.

19.  San Diego Chargers:  Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio State (Joel Segal).

Keenan McCardell is 36.  Enough said.

20.  Kansas City Chiefs:  Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College (Tom Condon).

The defense continues to get a needed upgrade.

21.  New England Patriots:  Donte Whitner, DB, Ohio State (Jonathan Hurst).

The Pats address an area of glaring weakness.

22.  Denver Broncos (from Redskins):  Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia (Todd France).

Oversized target will make Denver fans says, "Shannon who?"

23.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers:  Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa (Marvin Demoff).

Derrick Brooks is getting old.

24.  Cincinnati Bengals:  Ashton Youboty, CB, Ohio State (Joel Segal).

Good team gets better with help in the secondary.

25.  New York Giants:  Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State (Jimmy Sexton).

G-men address a huge area of need.

26.  Chicago Bears:  Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech (Eric Metz, Ethan Lock, Zeke Sandhu, Vance Malinovic)

With Jerry Azumah gone for good, the Bears replace him.

27.  Carolina Panthers:  Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota (Ethan Lock, Zeke Sandhu, Vance Malinovic).

Panthers desperately need another option at tailback.

28.  Jacksonville Jaguars:  DeMeco Ryans, LB, Alabama (Archie Lamb, Kirk Wood).

Unless LaVar Arrington slashes his price, Jags will still be looking for a replacement to Akin Ayodele come late April.

29.  New Orleans Saints (from Jets via Broncos via Falcons):  Tye Hill, CB, Clemson.

The Saints could go in several different directions with this one, primarily since they have so many needs.

30.  Indianapolis Colts:  Joseph Addai, RB, LSU (Ian Greengross).

Barring a trade up for one of the bigger name backs, Colts take the best one still on the board.

31.  Seattle Seahawks:   Max Jean-Gilles, G, Georgia (Eugene Parker).

'Hawks address their most obvious area of need in the wake of the departure of Steve Hutchinson.

32.  Pittsburgh Steelers:  Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami (Drew Rosenhaus).

If Sinorice plays anything like his brother Santana, the Steelers might finally have a field-stretching gamebreaker.
