NEW YORK JETS
presented by
by PFT Editor Mike Florio, with Matt Miller

The Jets
shocked the football world by making the playoffs in the first season of
the Eric Mangini/Mike Tannenbaum regime. So the expectations will
be higher in 2007, and there are holes to fill on a team that
overachieved in '06. Here are
the areas on which the Jets should focus, in our opinion: 1.
Linebacker: The transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 continues.
With Jonathan Vilma rumored to be on the trade block, the Jets will need
to replace him. Ideally, they'll pick up a guy who'll put his hand
on the ground in pass situations and make like a defensive end.
Especially since Victor Hobson is likely to move inside. 2.
Cornerback: Andre Dyson is the only quality corner on the roster.
And he can't always stay healthy. The team needs help here.
Perhaps in round one. 3.
Guard: Brandon Moore has been solid, but if the Jets get the
chance to add a big, physical interior lineman, they might. Heck,
they might take two -- which would give them a guy to eventually take
over for Pete Kendall. 4.
Defensive end: The Jets dropped some jack on Kenyon Coleman, a
part-time starter in Dallas. He knows the 3-4, but don't be
surprised if they address this position on day two of the draft. 5.
Offensive tackle: D'Brickashaw Ferguson will be the guy on the
left side for the next D'Cade. But the Jets would like to get a
bookend for Ferguson, and Anthony Clement isn't the answer. 6.
Tight end: If the Jets continue to improve, they might need to
find a way to solve the Colts' Tampa 2 defense. One guy who could
help is Miami tight end Greg Olsen, whose speed will exploit the holes
in the middle of the field created by sliding the safeties deep. |
