2007 TRAINING CAMP REPORTS
CLEVELAND BROWNS
POSTED 11:05 p.m. EDT, August 5, 2007
C LeCharles Bentley was at practice on Sunday, but has not yet been cleared to participate.
We used to think Bud Shaw wanted the Browns to bend over for Brady; we're now wondering whether Bud wants to bend over for Brady.
Could RB Jamal Lewis be poised to prove people wrong?
It's refreshing, in a strange sort of way, to hear a guy who has violated the steroids policy not try to blame anyone but himself.
Even with RT Ryan Tucker gone for four games, coach Romeo Crennel says that Joe Thomas is not a lock to start the season at left tackle.
POSTED 9:40 p.m. EDT, August 2, 2007
WR Travis Wilson wants to be the third receiver.
DL Orpheus Roye had arthroscopic surgery on his knee on Thursday.
Coach Romeo Crennel is in no hurry to name a starting quarterback.
The solid play of S Brodney Pool might keep any quarterback from winning the job.
RB Jamal Lewis is on the cover of the Sports Illustrated fantasy football preview. (As what? The one guy to avoid?)
C Hank Fraley would be willing to switch to guard if/when LeCharles Bentley returns.
OT Kevin Shaffer is taking snaps on the left side and the right side.
POSTED 10:19 p.m. EDT, July 31, 2007
Coach Romeo Crennel says that there's no timetable to name a starting quarterback.
If Bud Shaw had his way, the Browns would bend over for Brady.
Get to know Seth McKinney. (If he's anything like his brother, then that dude's okay by us.)
CB Gary Baxter is back after tearing both patellar tendons in October.
QB Charlie Frye knows Donovan McNabb's secret. (Does it involve puking every time you go to Florida?)
CB Leigh Bodden is still recovering from ankle surgery in March.
We can't quite understand why Tom Condon is letting Brady Quinn take the heat in the media for his holdout.
Is Joshua Cribbs the next Devin Hester?
Derek Anderson was 12 for 17 in 7-on-7 drills, and Charlie Frye was 11-for-16 on Monday.
The new offense is holding its own against the starting defense.
Rookie WR Syndric Steptoe had the catch of the day on Monday.
TE Kellen Winslow is practicing, but says his knee isn't as good as it was before the "accident."
The Skipper says that Joe Thomas will make a quick impact.
POSTED 5:43 p.m. EDT, July 28, 2007
The Browns and C LeCharles Bentley agreed to postpone by four weeks his team-imposed physical.
With each passing day, Brady Quinn's chances of starting the season as the starting quarterback are shrinking.
Second-round CB Eric Wright missed practice on Friday due to travel problems.
When Wright arrived at 11:00 p.m., the team made him take his conditioning test then and there.
TE Kellen Winslow participated in some limited work without pads on Friday.
CB Gary Baxter could be activated from the PUP list on Monday.
Optimism is high in Browns camp (perhaps it's due to the fumes from the raw sewage).
QB Charlie Frye has a "leg up" in the competition because of his experience.
WR Tim Carter ran with the ones on Friday.
