2007 TRAINING CAMP REPORTS

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

POSTED 10:29 p.m. EDT, August 6, 2007  by Michael David Smith

With Booger McFarland out, the defensive tackle rotation consists of Raheem Brock, Darrell Reid, Dan Klecko, Quinn Pitcock and Keyunta Dawson.

Coach Tony Dungy says T.J. Rushing has the kick return job locked up

Dungy says "It is a little weird" when fans approach him and tell him that his sister -- an Indianapolis doctor -- delivered them.

Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star says Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Adam Vinatieri and Bill Polian are definite Hall of Famers, while Dungy and Dwight Freeney are close.

Backup QB John Navarre says of Manning, "He works harder than anybody else."

In anticipation of Thursday's exhibition opener, the Colts' PR staff has dug up the full history of the team's past preseason games against the Cowboys.

The defense got the better of the offense in the Colts' team scrimmage, but that was mostly because of fumbles by guys who won't be playing when the regular season starts.

QB Jim Sorgi completed seven of 10 passes in the intrasquad scrimmage.

It's official: The Colts have released DT Corey Simon

Coach Tony Dungy says his training camp philosophy is to "do much more in small groups [than] we do as an overall team."

DE Dwight Freeney has missed some practice time with a left shoulder injury, but Dungy said, "I don't think it's serious."

Freeney says his sacks slipped last year in part because teams ran on the Colts more than they threw. (Of course, Freeney's inability to stop the run is one of the reasons for that.)

Marlin Jackson is a full-time cornerback after bouncing between corner and safety in the past.

QB Peyton Manning scored a touchdown on a quarterback draw in Wednesday's practice. (It's easy to score when every defensive player knows he'll be immediately cut for tackling you.)

Former Steelers CB Mel Blount spoke to the Colts about what it takes to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

Rookie DT Quinn Pitcock is expected to practice for the first time today.

Rookie DE Keyunta Dawson describes his first NFL practice as "kind of a blur."

This afternoon's practice is special teams only.

WR Marvin Harrison, 34, is the Colts' oldest player; six other players on the roster are 30 or older.

Coach Tony Dungy's book is No. 1 on the New York Times Bestseller List.

Dungy says kickoff and punt coverage are among the places where the team has to get better.

Rookie Tony Ugoh is, for now, the starting left tackle.

Coach Tony Dungy says DT Corey Simon failed his physical; Simon and his agent say that's news to them.

S Bob Sanders and LB Keith O'Neil are on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

DT Quinn Pitcock, a third-round draft pick, was placed on the reserve-drafted/unsigned list because he has not passed his physical.

Rookie cornerback Daymeion Hughes has decided he wants to be called by his middle name, Dante.

G Rick DeMulling, back in Indianapolis after two years in Detroit, says of his fellow Colt-turned-Lion Marcus Pollard, "He liked it (in Detroit) about as much as I did. It just wasn't a good fit for us."

The players aren't wearing their Super Bowl rings to team meetings.

An unofficial record of 1,717 fans attended the Colts' first workout Monday.
