2007 TRAINING CAMP REPORTS

NEW YORK JETS

POSTED 11:04 p.m. EDT, August 4, 2007

DE Andre Wadsworth is moving in the right direction as he attempts to make an NFL comeback.  (But he needs to find out the actual meaning of the word "digressing.")

Undersized (relatively speaking) DT Dewayne Robertson is having a strong camp as the middle point of the 3-4.

The Jets signed on Saturday LB Jerry Mackey.

Two long-shot running backs -- Danny Ware and Alvin Banks -- could make the team.

Friday's practice was canceled after two practices of nearly three hours each on Thursday.

TE Joe Kowalewski and LB Cody Spencer had the first fight of camp.

There's no end in sight to the holdout of CB Darrelle Revis.

K Mike Nugent nailed a 57-yard field goal on Thursday.

Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post thinks that the Jets are being unreasonable in the Revis and Kendall tussles.

Jets WR Brad Smith is getting some work at quarterback, too.

Is OG Brandon Moore pissed off now, too?

POSTED 12:05 a.m. EDT, August 1, 2007

OL Pete Kendall didn't practice on Monday due to an undisclosed leg injury.

Kendall will file a grievance if/when he is suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.

OL Adrien Clarke practiced with the first team on Monday; he was out of football in 2006.

CB Justin Miller is taking advantage of the reps that CB Darrelle Revis is missing.

DE Michael Haynes used and abused rookie OT Jacob Bender on Monday.

WR Jerricho Cotchery made a dazzling sideline catch on Monday.

The Jets are piping classical music into camp.

LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson has bulked up a bit.

Ian O'Connor points out that humorless coaches who don't win quickly become jobless.

POSTED 6:21 p.m. EDT, July 29, 2007

DE Kenyon Coleman practiced with the first team on Saturday for the first time.

There's no progress in talks with rookie first-round CB Darrelle Revis.

Disgruntled OL Pete Kendall makes it clear that the only reason he is around is because of the $14,000 per day fine for holding out:  "I'm here because I don’t want to pay them not to be here at this point.  If that's the type of esprit de corps they want, all I can do is be honest about how I feel."  (Esprit de corps?  Has he been hanging out with Tiki Barber?)

LB Cody Spencer knocked the helmet off of RB Alvin Banks with a big hit on Saturday.

The fact that Chad Pennington was the clear-cut starter throughout the 2007 offseason will be a benefit in preparations for the season.

Rookie LB David Harris is adjusting to the 3-4 defense.

LB Jonathan Vilma seems to acknowledge that his own adjustment to the 3-4 is a work in progress (but he didn't compare it to horse racing).

RB Leon Washington missed practice on Saturday for "personal reasons."

Sunday's practice was moved indoors, and closed to the public, due to storms in the area.

Eric Mangini, on his defense of choice:  "What I've always liked about the 3-4 is that you’ve got the flexibility to have that double bubble over the guard in the standard, or what you would think of as the traditional 3-4, and you can move one of those ends down and rush an OLB and conceptually it's the same exact thing as a 4-3.  Or you can bring both ends down and rush both OLBs and now you have like a 46 look, like the Buddy Ryan Bears look.  And with four LBs, those four pieces can replace defensive linemen to build any front that you want.  And you’re not forced to adjust with the secondary on movement, you can just adjust with LBs.  When you have four big guys in there, they can really only go to certain spots and the little guys have to adjust."
