No. 10 Ronnie Lott.

Best known for his work as a safety, Ronnie Lott began his career as a high-performance cornerback with the 49ers in 1981.  He instantly was known as one of the top defensive backs in the NFL, making it to four Pro Bowls before making the switch.

Ronnie Lott was the nucleus of the 49ers defense during the 1980s, as important to his side of the ball as Joe Montana was to the offense.  He was powerful, he was fearless.

In the first season of his transition to safety, Lott needed surgery to repair the tip of his pinky.  But if he had the operation, he would need to miss some playing time.  So he elected to have the finger chopped off at the tip of the last knuckle

His influence showed.  The Niners won four Super Bowls with Lott on the team, and Lott secured his place in the Hall of Fame.
