ProFootballTalk.com's Top 25 In 25
No. 23: Willie Roaf. The left tackle position has become critical to the success of NFL offenses, and Willie Roaf has been the best left tackle in the left tackle era. Roaf, a first-round pick of the Saints in 1993, was voted to 11 straight Pro Bowls. Though stellar in nine seasons with the Saints, Roaf anchored one of the best offensive lines in the league during his four seasons with the Chiefs. He abruptly retired last July, leaving a gaping hole in the Kansas City wall of blockers. We don't think it's a coincidence that running back Larry Johnson's per-carry average dipped by nearly a full yard with Roaf gone. Other left tackles that we considered for inclusion in the list were Orlando Pace and Jonathan Ogden. Both are great players, both have a Super Bowl ring, and both will likely land in the Hall of Fame. But we had to give the nod to Roaf. Click here for No. 22.
