ProFootballTalk.com's Top 25 In 25

No. 6 Lawrence Taylor.

What can we say about the greatest defensive player of all time?  He changed the game unlike any other defensive player, forcing offenses to alter entire blocking schemes to account for the disruptive presence of one guy.

In 1986, Taylor was the first defensive player to win the AP's NFL MVP award since Alan Page in 1971, and Taylor also was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year a whopping three times.

Sure, L.T. had his share of problems, but those things only kept him from becoming the best player of all time.  He was one of a kind, and we can't imagine another defensive player having the same kind of impact.

Except, perhaps, Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman.  If he can pass more than 19 of his next 20 steroids tests.
