2007 TRAINING CAMP REPORTS

MINNESOTA VIKINGS

POSTED 12::25 p.m. EDT, August 5, 2007  by Michael David Smith

Rookie G Dan Mozes will likely miss the season after suffering a knee injury Friday.

RB Adrian Peterson spoke with Priest Holmes when the Vikings scrimmaged the Chiefs, and Holmes told Peterson he needs to learn to play through minor injuries.

QBs Tarvaris Jackson and Brooks Bollinger both looked better Saturday than they did Friday.

Of DE Ray Edwards' fight with Chiefs OT Kyle Turley, coach Brad Childress said, "That's just football. It's a physical game. You've just got to make sure that everyone keeps their composure."

A block from FB Jeff Dugan was named the hit of the night.

WRs Sidney Rice, Aundrae Allison, Chandler Williams and Troy Williamson all sat out Saturday.

TE Visanthe Shiancoe is confident that he can become a receiving threat, even though he caught just 35 passes in four seasons with the Giants.

DE Khreem Smith says "I'm desperate" to make the team because he's out of money after almost all of the $190,000 he made last year went to taxes, debt, back child support and lawyer fees.

Coach Brad Childress says RB Mewelde Moore has had an outstanding camp with Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson missing time with injuries.

On top of the NFL's new restrictions on Internet video, Childress is limiting how much local TV reporters can film at training camp, saying he worries that practice footage could give the Vikings' opponents a competitive advantage.

CB Ronyell Whitaker suffered an ankle sprain -- but not a high ankle sprain -- in Thursday morning's practice.

NFL referee Bill Carollo visited camp and reminded the Vikings that this season officials will strictly enforce five-yard delay of game penalties for players who spike or throw the ball at the end of a play in bounds.

LB Chad Greenway doesn't appear to have lost a step after missing his entire rookie season with a torn ACL.

LB Napoleon Harris, who left for Kansas City as a free agent, will be back when the Vikings scrimmage with the Chiefs.

Rookie CB Marcus McCauley is showing a nose for the ball.

Artis Hicks and Anthony Herrera are competing for the starting spot at right guard, while Ryan Cook and Marcus Johnson are battling at right tackle.

LT Bryant McKinnie is scheduled to return today after missing nine practices with a strained hamstring.

QB Tarvaris Jackson had his ugliest practice of training camp Tuesday.

Coach Brad Childress said, "At this point in camp, you generally see defense is ahead of offense, and I would say that is the case right now."

Normally mild-mannered offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell lost his cool at how badly the offense played during Tuesday's practice.

LB E.J. Henderson is making a smooth transition from the weak side to the middle.

RB Chester Taylor will likely miss a couple days with a bruised forearm.

RB Adrian Peterson assuaged some concerns about his health when he took a shot in the left collarbone area and got up showing no ill-effects.

S Darren Sharper is being held out of contact drills while he recovers from a shoulder injury.

It's still not clear whether rookie RB Adrian Peterson can practice without limitations or whether the collarbone injury he suffered at Oklahoma will prevent him from practicing in full pads.

Veteran RB Chester Taylor says he doesn't object to Peterson taking reps with the first-team offense.

WR Troy Williamson failed to reel in a catchable deep ball, bringing groans from the fans in the stands.

The defensive players won a competition with the offense during Saturday's competition and as a result, they were permitted to stay out two hours past the usual 11 p.m. curfew.

Marcus McCauley and Dovonte Edwards are battling for the nickel back position.

Despite coach Brad Childress's claim that both would get a shot at starting, QB Tarvaris Jackson is getting almost all the snaps with the first-team offense, and Brooks Bollinger is playing with the second string.

Jackson and Bollinger are rooming together at camp.

QB Drew Henson, trying to win the third-string job, had a pass picked off at the line of scrimmage by a defensive lineman who's three inches shorter than Henson.

Major Dad isn't worried about the end of talks toward a long-term deal with DT Pat Williams.

S Darren Sharper missed Saturday afternoon's practice after taking a hard shot from FB Tony Richardson.

Rookie WR Sidney Rice has been working at No. 2 and No.3 receiver, but hasn't stood out yet.

Rookie CB Marcus McCauley has looked sharp so far.

WR Troy Williamson's coke-bottle lenses came in handy on a tipped pass.

LB Chad Greenway, who missed all of his rookie season with a torn ACL, is playing weakside linebacker.

LB Ben Leber missed practice on Saturday with a muscle strain.

Ten different players handled kick returns prior to Saturday's morning practice.

Unofficially, QB Tarvaris Jackson was 16-for-22 with one interception during 7-on-7 drills on Saturday.
