ProFootballTalk.com's Top 25 In 25

Since we've never encountered a good idea that we weren't willing to swipe, we've decided to roll out our own Top 25 players of the past 25 years, given the current efforts of USA Today to do so.

The fact that USA Today included Terry Bradshaw in its list was the main thing that prompted us to do our own.  Bradshaw was great in his day, but his day wasn't within the last 25 years.  It's hard enough to make the list by focusing only on the guys who have played most of their careers over the past 25 seasons; giving guys like Bradshaw a free ticket based on achievements from beyond the window makes it harder to do justice to guys who have been the best of the best since 1982.

We thought about trying to put together a points system that would make the list more objective, but there's no way to objectively rank and rate guys from different positions on both sides of the ball.  So we went with our gut, and we tried to be fair.  We factored in the opinions of Michael David Smith, and of some of our readers.  We know that we won't make everyone happy, and we know that we'll make plenty of people mad.  But it's a healthy debate, and we hope it helps get everyone through the next few weeks before training camps open up.
